Autonomous photovoltaic systems

Autonomous photovoltaic systems are intended for supplying electric power to facilities and consumers with no possibility of connection to the public distribution network. From the technical aspect, these are usually network systems with additional equipment connected.

Thus, autonomous systems usually consist of:
  • Photovoltaic generator (photovoltaic modules generating direct currency power and usually connected into strings);
  • Inverter or charge regulator which convert direct currency power into alternating currency power, or regulate voltage and currency which charge batteries, respectively;
  • Batteries of different capacities and voltages, whose primary task is to store electric power for periods of cloudy weather or nocturnal periods;
  • Autonomous inverters whose task is to deliver the chemical energy stored in batteries to consumers as electric power.

Such systems can also, in addition to the photovoltaic generator, have other energy sources implemented (diesel generator, wind generator, fuel cells...) in which case they are called hybrid autonomous systems..
